FLOW is a festival of bold and imaginative arts and culture made with, by and for Children in Birmingham and Sandwell, produced and curated by The Parakeet for the Birmingham 2022 Festival.

FLOW aims to empower Children by placing them in the centre of the action and in doing so make for a captivating and exciting program of events throughout the summer of 2022.

Are you passionate about children's play and creativity? We are on the look out for a team of volunteers to support the delivery of FLOW.

Responsibilities will include greeting visitors, stewarding and assisting in *playwork with artists, forest school leaders and play workers.

*Playwork is an approach to working with children in which children determine and control the content and intent of their play, rather than it being led or directed. The play process for children includes exploration, trying out things, testing boundaries of ability as they grow, learning from successes and mistakes to build resilience and adaptability. Children are the experts in their play, and are very clear about how play contributes to their overall wellbeing, happiness and ability to be with friends and meet new ones, to stay healthy and enjoy their local area, and feel safe while enjoying new challenges.

When selecting volunteers we prioritise people with previous experience of either construction, creativity or working with children. Having said that we welcome everyone into our community, and are able to support those who may not feel confident or have not previously worked in such an environment. As long as you are enthusiastic, and are willing to get stuck in with collaborative building with children and families, then we would love you to come along.

We will be holding a digital introduction for all volunteers on Friday 13th May 4pm. Volunteers will also need to attend an activity specific training session (1 hour), these will be held at Warley Woods Pavilion at 4pm on the Friday 20th May for BUILD activities and at 3pm on Friday 27th May for CREATE & EXPLORE Activities.
